Petite Seats Styled Shoot

Working with Chamique {@ChamiqueBowen} is always a pleasure. When she approached me about creating a multi-look styled shoot to commemorate her little girl’s 9th birthday and the launch of her tableware linen I hoped on the opportunity.

BOHO CHIC in Brooklyn, NYC

Last week I was overly ambitious and participated in TWO styled shoots. The first I'll blog about soon, an outer space fifth birthday party. For second shoot I ventured to Brooklyn to provide Petite Seats, tables, and poufs for a dynamic collab with Bonnie’s Balloons, Pics + Petal, and Willow + Rose Petals. Bonnie say me several days before and ask if I would be interested in collaborating a small setup, you already know my answer was yes! She sent me her style board and I knew my new rattan bow chairs would be perfect. Without further ado, I present, what I’m calling Boho Chic In Bk.

Look Two

Shooting at almost twilight was pretty cool, the images had a nice natural filter. The rattan glass-top table was a curbside find in Deal, New Jersey. Paired with our new Moroccan poufs, the low table is perfect for the kiddies and adults.

Sunshine + Lemon Petite Styled Shoot in Andover, New Jersey

Before the upcoming cooler weather and the end of the season, V and I collaborated to produce a styled shoot inspired by the citrusy lemon. We wanted to capture the essence and spirit of an outdoor soirée for my littles and their besties on a perfect summer afternoon.

V visited the Hunts Point Flower Market to purchase the flowers to achieve these centerpiece looks. I added my two-sense with a halved fig ;-)

We wanted to use lemons as the focus point of our shoot, but not in an over done way. White with shades of yellow and pink were used to show the vibrancy of the season and to add more dimension.

V styled each place setting with a yellow gingham cloth napkin as a place mat, as is her signature design element for kid's’ tablescapes only one piece of cutlery was used.

Now let’s get into the awe-inspiring desserts, especially the cake. Kedby outdid herself with these treats. Our cake was made with a lemon infused buttercream with vanilla bean filling. The cake was decorated with lemon macarons, gold leaf, a sprinkling of pistachios and dehydrated lemon slices. The dehydrated lemons were also used in the caksicles and the lemon curd tarts. All were beautiful and tasted even better.

Summer BBQ feature in Whisk by Ami

I made the journey to Monsey, New York to deliver our newly designed low table for Rachel (@Rachel.Ostroy). D and I are constantly looking for inspiration for kid sized tables. This design was a 15” high Japanese inspired kotatsu. The table is 40” wide and 7’ long, perfect for kids and adults to share a meal or just relax around. For Rachel’s shoot she used two table (long side together) to create a massive setting for a BBQ celebration.

Rachel and her team took bar-b-quing to a whole new level. Everything from the boxwood centerpieces to the galvanized steel serving platters was thoughtful executed. Rachel partnered with the Ami Food Magazine for execute this shoot.

Enchanted Forest Styled Shoot-Storyboard

Styled shoots are a huge part of Petite Seats’ marketing plan. With each shoot I plan an elaborate storyboard to explain each aspect of the shoot. For this shoot the theme we selected was enchanted forest. Being that I live in a heavily wooded area I was excited about the prospects of a woodland theme. As with any shoot I set the bar pretty high for myself. I love to work with vendors who do the same, so my vision can blend with theirs flawlessly. All went well except vendor I used for the costumes. In short the custom costumes made looked like my five year old created them and I basically lost $500.

FullSizeRender.jpg
FullSizeRender.jpg

Let us paint the picture for you . . .

Imagine you're on a nature walk on a brisk fall afternoon, you are deep inside the cool clasp of the lush forest. As you walk slowly the sun peeks through the branches overhead. Twigs snap as inquisitive chipmunks chase each other; high above birds chatter. You stop. As you stand quietly on the moss and fern lined path you hear the soft murmurs of voices. You listen then decide to move farther into a small clearing in the trees. What do you see?! It’s a gathering of mythical forest children… a gnome, a nymph, elves, and you even see the glistening wings of a fairy. You quietly hide behind a large oak tree and watch. They are having a celebration. Each is sitting on moss cover wooden chairs at a table set for royalty. The table is adorned with ornate colored glass stemware, rustic copper flatware, and a prominent wildflower centerpiece that seems to be sprouting of a tree trunk.

Holiday 2018

It’s December and we are in the thick of the holiday season. Valerie of Konfetti Boutik came up to us to design and style a perfect petite holiday tablescape. Check out the images and descriptions from Valerie:

“It’s December and … Tis’ the season to be jolly fa lala lala lala lala! We created this darling setting for a holiday party. The colors were bright, yet subtle. We used a lace paper as a placemat layered with an aqua blue glitter background on a white farm table. Each setting was adorned with a pink velvety poinsettia. A cluster of ornaments completed the centerpieces, and the hanging stars embellished the petite ghost chairs. The cake and cookies were the perfect complement to the decor. Happy Holidays everyone!”

Petite Marie Antoinette Styled Shoots

Petite Seats is officially one year old! A year ago today we embarked on the journey of providing children sized Chiavari chairs to the tri-state area and we accomplished our mission. During year two we will continue to get the Petite Seats brand exposure and grow our presence in Maryland. We will make more alliances with special events companies and purchase more specialized inventory.

We decided to commemorate our first year with a Marie Antoinette inspired styled shoot. We were fortunate to partner with the Grand Historic Venue in downtown Baltimore to produce this over-the-top styled shoot. We worked with fifteen vendors in create a one-of-a-kind kid's inspired celebration. Check out the video created by Nikki of MaeB Films below.

Tissue Paper Backdrop

Over our holiday break I decided to produce a Valentine's Day shoot. I, along with Natasha of the Flair Factor and Digna Toledo, styled and captured our Mommy + Me Petite V-Day shoot. We endeavored to keep the design simple and affordable using store purchased products. A large part of the decor for our shoot was a DIY tissue paper backdrop I created. This post will serve to assist those interested in creating their own.

Materials:

  1. Form Board {From Hobby Lobby}
  2. Elmer's Spray Adhesive {From Hobby Lobby}
  3. Tissue Paper {I purchased from a wholesale. Use places like EBay here}
  4. Heavy Moving Tape {Any brand/Type will do}
  5. Ribbon or Thin Floral Wire {Dollar Tree}
  6. Scissors {Sturdy enough to cut through 8 sheets of folded tissue paper}

Procedure:

Step One:

I began the process by taking four  - 32" x 40" foam boards and taping them together with heavy duty packing tape. Once the four boards were taped together I had a 5' x 7' wall. Here are two examples of the foam board I used here and here.

Step Two:

After making about 50-60 tissue paper flowers (See video below for How To)  I began to attach the flowers to the board using Elmer's Board Mate Spray Adhesive. I would spray a small area of the board and firmly press paper flower over the glued area for 3-5 seconds (sometimes a double spray was needed).

Step Three:

I used a "color block" style pattern for our board. I felt this would look better than just randomly picking up any color. I imagine this would look great with one solid color as well. An issue I encountered once all the flowers were on the board was it being front heavy. Because I taped the boards in a 4-quadrant design I was able to stand the board up and angle it to about a 60 degree angle (think hardcover menu-- see below). This allowed me to not have the backdrop flush against the wall. The larger the wall-- especially if you decide to make it in one piece as I did -- the more you will need to reinforce the back.

Below are alternative methods for creating a tissue paper backdrop along with photo inspiration. Enjoy!

PS Fall Campaign: New York City State of Mind

I endeavored to combined the individual talents of  some of the tri-state areas special events companies to present a styled photo shoot focusing on the undeniable charm of sophisticated children. The spectacular nineteenth century historic industrial complex, the Art Factory, was the perfect location for this child sized photo shoot.

Capturing the lightness of children’s laughter, mixing beautifully detailed design, with petite sized simplicity, this styled shoot was inspired by the energy and excitement of New York City. The color palette was instigated by the colors of a New York City taxi cab: black, white, and yellow {With pops of red}.  Favors and More, LLC’s design and installation offered a new perspective for an over-the-top children’s birthday party. An added bonus were the sweet treats from the Traveling Cupcake. We hope this shoot will mark the first of many collaborations to come and will inspire more "tot sized" shoots.

Donna of the Traveling Cupcake was one of the first vendors to show interest in the shoot when I announced it on Instagram. Her sweet treats where amazingly designed and tasted great too. Her serene presence was an added bonus to the hectic environment of the shoot.

Yosi of Favors + More LLC is the BOMB.com. She was so willing to take on any role she felt was too much for me to handle alone. She single highhandedly found and selected the models for the shoot. Besides Casting Director, she and her sister created an out-of-this world design and setup. I told them the theme and they ran with it!

These women are super sweet, talented, and true BOSSes. Thanks so much for making Petite Seats look so good.
